My daughters and I (owners of an adopted cat) have volunteered at the Posh Paws Animal Sanctuary – a very well run, very clean, and no-kill animal shelter. It was an amazing and very rewarding experience for all of us. The shelter had lots of different jobs – walking the dogs, visiting with the cats, washing and feeding animals (Jayda was tasked with washing a horse).
We learned that the animals usually get there by their owner surrendering them and leaving them on the street. You may see a horse, cat or dog with disheveled hair or a bruised body and feel deeply sorry for them. Helping these animals, and giving them the love they need was the most rewarding part of our experience.
As for volunteering at the Posh Paws Animal Sanctuary, they take whoever they could get, even those who could only work a few hours a weekend. They just wanted you to show up when you said you would.
Volunteering at an animal shelter is one of the most rewarding things you can do for yourself, for your kids and, animals. I am glad I have volunteered at the shelter with my daughters as part of #United4UAE initiative.
